The speaker is Lieutenant General (Retired) Ben Hodges (former Commanding General US Army Europe) and he will talk about the ongoing war against Ukraine in a discussion with Prof. Gerlinde Groitl and Prof. Stephan Bierling. The talk forms part of the "Brennpunkte der Weltpolitik" series organized by Prof. Bierling and the Department of International and Transatlantic Relations at UR.

Lt. General (ret.) Ben Hodges is a renowned defense expert and regular contributor to German national television on matters pertaining to Russia’s war against Ukraine. He served as Commanding General of United States Army Europe from 2014 to 2018. After retirement, he held the Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies at the Center for European Policy Analysis. He currently serves as NATO Senior Mentor for Logistics and Senior Advisor to the non-profit organization Human Rights First. He is the co-author (together with John R. Allen and Julian Lindley-French) of Future War and the Defence of Europe, published with Oxford University Press in 2021. Regensburg's IR hosted him before (not through the LSC).
