Practicing Transnational History

In a joint presentation, Diana Mishkova and Roumen Daskalov will share their hands-on experience and methodological takes in doing transnational history, drawing on the example of two co-edited and co-authored multi-volume works: Entangled Histories of the Balkans (4 vols., Brill, 2013-2017) and Balkan Historiographical Wars (2 vols., Palgrave Macmillan, 2025-2026).


Diana Mishkova is Professor of History and Academic Director of the Centre for Advanced Study in Sofia. Throughout October 2025, she is a visiting researcher with the Leibniz ScienceCampus and based at the Graduate School.

Roumen Daskalov is Full Professor of Modern History at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia and Recurrent Visiting Professor at the Central European University in Budapest / Vienna.
