July 4, 2026, marks 250 years since the American Declaration of Independence. This anniversary provides an opportunity to examine critically how independence movements have functioned historically and continue to operate today. While the 1776 Declaration promised liberty, it excluded women, Indigenous peoples, and the enslaved from its vision of freedom. The Leibniz ScienceCampus research network Margins of Memory invites you to join a series of talks throughout this winter semester addressing themes of remembering and working through the past from around the world.

The first event takes place on 21 November, 10:00.

From 14:00 there will be a follow up event with Martin Fotta and Volha Bartash discussing how to apply for ERC grants as early career researchers.

This event is part of the Margins of Memory Speaker Series, organized by the Early Career Research Network supported by the Leibniz ScienceCampus. Martin Fotta's talk is supported by the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies.
