On May 17, Dr Ivanna Cherchovych will be presenting the educational platform she leads at the Center for Urban History in Lviv, titled REESOURCES: Rethinking Eastern Europe. The presentation will be held at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) from 14:00 to 15:30 in room 017 (Landshuter Str. 4). The discussion will be chaired by Katarina Damčević (IOS), coordinator of the Junior Research Group at KonKoop – a Germany-wide project on Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe.
REESOURCES is the extensive Educational Platform of the Center for Urban History. It offers resources that aim to decentralize the curriculum of Eastern Europe by diversifying primary materials, challenging established grand narratives, and creating new approaches to teaching and learning about this region. It strives to enhance grassroots perspectives, local voices, and individual experiences in the ways history is taught in the classroom and discussed in public. The platform features an array of primary materials, syllabi for teaching urban history, and online courses on themes including visualising cities, gender and modernity, or an introduction to urban sociology.
Dr. Ivanna Cherchovych is a researcher and head of educational projects at the Center for Urban History in Lviv. She is also a research fellow at the Department of Social Anthropology of the Ethnology Institute, National Academy of Science of Ukraine, holding a Ph.D. from the Ivan Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies. She has been a visiting research fellow at various institutions, including the Herder Institute for the History of East and Central Europe in Marburg, the German Historical Institute in Warsaw, and the Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies at Toronto University.
She is the author of the course "To Be a Woman in the Late 19th Century Eastern Galicia" at the Ukrainian Catholic University and a member of the Ukrainian Association of Researchers of Women's History. Her current research focuses on women's experiences in urban spaces in Habsburg Galicia during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The event is organised by KonKoop (Conflict and Cooperation in Eastern Europe), in cooperation with the IOS Regensburg and the Leibniz ScienceCampus.
