This talk is part of the LSC Lecture Series on Sport, Politics, Conflict, which is organized by the Leibniz ScienceCampus Europe and America in the Modern World. The talks are open to all staff at UR and IOS, as well as the general public. UR students can sign up for the course and receive credits.

Bio | Árpád von Klimó is Ordinary Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History and Anthropology at the Catholic University of America, specializing in modern Central European history, nationalism, and Catholicism. He received his M.A. (1992), Ph.D. (1995), and Habilitation (2001) from the Freie Universität Berlin, following additional study in Göttingen and Venice. Prof. von Klimó is a leading scholar of 19th- and 20th-century European social and cultural history, with a particular focus on Hungary, Germany, and Italy. His major monographs include Remembering Cold Days: The 1942 Massacre of Novi Sad and Hungarian Politics and Society (2018) and Hungary since 1945 (2018), as well as earlier works such as Nation, Konfession, Geschichte (2003). He has also co-edited influential notable including The Routledge History of East Central Europe since 1700 (2017). In addition to his books, Prof. von Klimó has published widely in leading journals such as Central European History and Catholic Historical Review, contributing to scholarship on nationalism, memory, and global Catholicism. He is working on a monograph that will present a global history of soccer (association football).
