Project: Transnationale Film-Remakes: Zwischen Interkulturalität und universeller Verständlichkeit (Transnational Film Remakes: Between interculturality and universal comprehensibility)

Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ralf Junkerjürgen

I am working on my interdisciplinary dissertation with the working title "Transnational Film Remakes – between interculturality and universal understanding". In this project, I examine the cultural transfer of transnational film remakes using the example of the Italian popular comedy Perfetti Sconosciuti (2016),which has been remade 18 times in three years. In the last five years, production of transnational multiple remakes in local languages and cultures has increased notably. This seems to be related to the existence of globally operating specialized joint ventures such as Globalgate since 2016. Transnational production and distribution mechanisms and their intersections with cultural transfer remain largely unexplored on the level of multiple remakes.

This project expands upon my master's thesis "Successful across cultures? An Intercultural Film Comparison between the German Premake Fack ju Göhte and the US-American and Mexican remake No manches Frida". I wrote this as part of the binational degree MA program Intercultural European Studies at the University of Regensburg and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I acquired a bi-national BA in German-French Studies in 2016 at the University of Regensburg and the Université Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand.
